— Cu Huy Ha Vu, a well-known legal scholar, human rights defender and environmental activist, was
sentenced to seven years in prison in April 2011 for “conducting propaganda” against the state. His
sentence was upheld on appeal in August 2011. He had twice submitted criminal complaints against
the prime minister, once in an attempt to stop a controversial bauxite mining project and the other time
for challenging the legality of a ban on class-action complaints
